In response to the PIMS Hospital tragedy, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to introduce a mandatory fire safety training program for house officers at all medical and dental colleges, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

The fire safety training will be made a compulsory part of house jobs and will include emergency drills, safe evacuation of patients, identification of fire hazards and the proper use of firefighting equipment.

The PMDC has also directed medical colleges and teaching hospitals to conduct regular fire safety and evacuation drills to ensure that doctors and other medical staff are prepared to respond effectively during emergencies.

The council will also carry out a comprehensive review of existing fire safety protocols at medical and dental institutions.

According to the PMDC, the initiative aims to ensure the safety of doctors, patients, students and staff by focusing on preparedness and developing the capacity for an immediate and effective response to fire emergencies.

The council is also considering expanding the fire safety training program to medical and postgraduate students in the future.
