The Punjab Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department has issued a stern warning to heads of teaching hospitals following a video leak that revealed serious breaches of medical protocols, including non-medical staff administering injections and handling patient treatment, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
According to the department, incidents were reported where unrelated individuals were seen giving injections to patients and drawing blood, actions strictly prohibited under medical regulations. The involvement of cleaning and security staff in patient care was described as a grave concern and a clear violation of medical ethics.
Officials emphasised that allowing non-qualified personnel to carry out medical procedures is unacceptable and poses significant risks to patient safety.
“Such incidents and actions are absolutely not allowed,” the department stated.
The department has directed all heads of teaching hospitals to take immediate and necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of such practices.
It further warned that strict accountability will be enforced, adding that the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the concerned hospital will be held responsible if similar incidents occur in the future.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring adherence to professional standards and safeguarding patient care across all public sector teaching hospitals.
