21,406 Pakistanis imprisoned in 61 foreign countries’ jails

There are a total of 21,406 Pakistanis imprisoned in the jails of 61 countries, as revealed by the documents of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

However, the documents inform that the record on Pakistani prisoners in 14 other countries is yet to be obtained from the Pakistani embassies in these countries.

The documents state that 65 Pakistanis, including Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, are imprisoned in jails in the USA.

Similarly, there are 23 Pakistani prisoners in the UK, 27 in Australia, 42 in Spain, 85 in Afghanistan, 112 in Sri Lanka, one in Bangladesh, 19 in Nepal, 11 in Bulgaria, 21 in Denmark, while 75 prisoners in South Africa.  

Likewise, there are 738 Pakistanis in Indian jails, 578 in Oman, 463 in Malaysia, 422 in Qatar, 42 in Kuwait, 40 in Iraq, and four in Iran.

However, surprisingly, there are 10,423 Pakistanis imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, 5,297 Pakistanis in the UAE jails and 1,437 in Turkey.

The report discloses that there is no Pakistani prisoner in Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Brunei Darussalam, Ghana, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, New Zealand, Rwanda, Senegal and Singapore. 

The report informs that France has not shared with Pakistan the list of Pakistani prisoners under the Local Privacy Act. 

Similarly, 16 Pakistanis are languishing in jails in Japan of whom details of six have not been shared with the Pakistani authorities.
