Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Senator Azam Swati was barred from travelling abroad at Bacha Khan Peshawar on Wednesday morning, despite having court permission to leave the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Swati was scheduled to fly to Dubai but was not allowed to board his flight. His legal team has filed a contempt of court petition in the Peshawar High Court against the authorities responsible.
Azam Swati’s lawyer, Advocate Ali Azeem Afridi, stated in the petition that the Peshawar High Court had ordered the removal of Swati’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL) just a day earlier. He argued that the decision to stop Swati at the airport directly violated the court’s ruling.
The petition requests the court to take contempt action against the officials who prevented Swati’s travel, arguing that such actions undermine the authority of the judiciary.
The matter is expected to be taken up by the court soon as legal proceedings continue.
