Islamabad Police have registered criminal cases following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests held yesterday to mark three years since the imprisonment of the party's founder, Imran Khan, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
According to police, First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered at Karpa and I-9 police stations under Section 144 and other relevant legal provisions.
The cases name 25 individuals as accused and also include more than 200 unidentified protesters.
According to the FIRs, protesters gathered on a public road and blocked traffic.
The police said demonstrators were informed that Section 144 was in force in Islamabad and that public meetings, rallies, and protests were prohibited in the federal capital.
The FIRs further alleged that despite being informed of the restrictions, some protesters scuffled with police officers, tore their uniforms, and threw stones at security personnel.
Police also alleged that the demonstrators chanted slogans against the government, leading to a deterioration in the law and order situation.
Based on these allegations, police registered cases against the protesters under provisions relating to the violation of Section 144, obstruction of public officials in the performance of their duties, and other applicable offences.
