Judicial Commission of Pakistan which met on Friday under the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi approved the appointment of Justice Shahid Bilal as member of Constitutional Bench of Supreme Court with majority votes, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Judicial Commission of Pakistan postponed the matter related to the appointments of additional judges in four High Courts till December 22. Judicial Commission also nominated Justice Adnan Karim and Justice Agha Faisal as judges of the Sindh High Court Constitutional Bench.
During JCP meeting, letter of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was also discussed. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah had suggested the formation of full court on petitions against the constitutional amendments. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi opposed the proposal of full court. Justice Yahya Afridi said that Constitutional Committee will decide when and how to decide the petitions against 26th constitutional amendments. Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi's opinion was supported by the majority of members.
Justice Muneeb Akhtar remained silent instead of opposing or supporting Justice Shahid Bilal's nomination as head of the Constitutional Bench.
Names of three District and Sessions Judges and six lawyers names were suggested for Additional Judges of Peshawar High Court. Kaleem Arshad, Farah Jamshed and Inamullah Khan are among the district and session judges. Lawyers include Junaid Anwar, Mudassar Amir and Aurangzeb. The names of Advocate Jawad Ehsanullah, Salahuddin and Sadiq Ali were also considered.
According to official statement, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi has formed a committee to amend the Judicial Commission rules. Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel will be the head of the committee. Attorney General of Pakistan, Barrister Ali Zafar, Farooq H. Naik and Pakistan Bar Council a rrepresentative Akhtar Hussain will be part of the committee. The Judicial Commission's secretary and two research officers will assist the committee.
The draft amendment to the Judicial Commission rules will be sent to the members by December 15, the statement said.
