The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) for its planned acquisition of Telenor Pakistan. The approval comes after what the PTA described as a “comprehensive regulatory review.”

According to the authority, the evaluation included a detailed assessment of the transaction’s potential impact on market competition and consumer interests. PTA officials confirmed that all legal requirements were fulfilled following consultations with relevant government agencies.

With the NOC now granted, PTCL can proceed with the acquisition once all remaining legal and commercial formalities are completed. The telecom regulator has directed both PTCL and Telenor Pakistan to ensure continuity and quality of service throughout the transition period.

The PTA emphasised that both companies must fully comply with all licensing conditions. It also announced strict monitoring of the transition process to safeguard consumer rights and ensure that the merger does not compromise service standards.

The authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining a competitive, modern, and consumer-friendly telecom environment in Pakistan—an approach industry experts say will be crucial as the sector moves toward greater consolidation and technological advancement.
