Meta is testing a standalone version of its AI-powered short-video app, Vibes, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Thursday. Launched in September 2025 within the Meta AI app, Vibes allows users to create, remix, and share AI-generated videos while exploring a dedicated feed of content from others.

The standalone app aims to provide a more focused and immersive experience for AI video creation and engagement.

“Following the strong early traction of Vibes within Meta AI, we are testing a standalone app to build on that momentum,” Meta said in a statement.

“Users are increasingly leaning into the format to create, discover, and share AI-generated videos with friends. This standalone app offers a dedicated home for that experience.”

Vibes functions similarly to TikTok or Instagram Reels, but every video is generated or enhanced by AI.

Users can create videos from scratch, remix videos seen on the feed, add new visuals, layer music, adjust styles, and then share them directly on the Vibes feed, via direct messages, or cross-post to Instagram and Facebook Reels and Stories.

Meta highlighted growing collaboration and sharing on the platform, with many videos being messaged to friends, reflecting user behavior similar to Reels engagement.

The company did not share exact usage numbers but said Vibes has performed well within Meta AI, indicating strong demand for a dedicated app.

In addition to launching the standalone app, Meta plans to explore premium subscription options for AI features, including Vibes.

While the app has been free since its launch, a freemium model will allow users to unlock additional video creation tools each month through a paid subscription, with testing slated for the coming months.
