The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has released its Safety Performance Report for the fiscal year 2024–25, highlighting significant variations in safety standards across Pakistan’s power distribution companies.
According to the report, K-Electric emerged as the best-performing distribution company from a safety perspective, setting a benchmark for the sector. NEPRA noted that K-Electric’s performance reflects sustained efforts to improve safety protocols, compliance, and operational practices.
Following K-Electric, Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) were ranked among the top performers, demonstrating relatively strong safety management and improved outcomes compared to other distribution companies.
In contrast, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), Khyber Electric Supply Company (KESCO) and Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) were identified as the weakest performers in terms of safety. The report pointed to the need for urgent corrective measures, stronger oversight, and enhanced safety enforcement within these utilities.
Beyond distribution companies, NEPRA also reviewed the safety performance of entities connected to the power generation and transmission system, providing a comprehensive overview of safety practices across the electricity value chain.
NEPRA stated that the primary objective of the report is to benchmark the current performance of power sector entities against previous years. This comparative assessment is intended to promote continuous improvement, encourage accountability, and drive the adoption of best practices to reduce accidents and enhance overall safety standards in the power sector.
