Tehran's metro system recorded over 7 million passengers during the funeral ceremony of slain Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

Iranian Fars News Agency, citing the Tehran Metro Operating Company, reported that between 5:30 pm on Saturday and 7:00 am on Sunday, more than seven million journeys were recorded on the system.

In view of the massive public turnout, authorities advised people to use the metro instead of private vehicles to ease traffic congestion and facilitate smooth transportation.

The Tehran Metro administration operated additional train services and deployed extra staff at several stations to help manage passenger flow and assist commuters.

Iranian officials said the large gathering attracted people from across the country, placing extraordinary pressure on the capital's metro system, roads, and other public transport services.

Authorities said special transport arrangements were made to accommodate the surge in passengers and ensure the event concluded with minimal disruption to the city's transport network.
