An explosion near a railway track in Khairpur on Friday damaged a freight train and disrupted rail traffic, according to police and railway officials.
Police sources said the blast occurred near the Tando Masti railway track, causing significant damage to the railway infrastructure. A freight train passing through the area was also affected, and one railway official sustained injuries in the incident.
Officials added that the railway track suffered severe damage due to the explosion. As a precautionary measure, train services have been halted at various railway stations in the region.
Law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene soon after the incident and launched an initial investigation. Authorities said the exact nature and cause of the explosion are still being examined.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the incident and directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khairpur to immediately provide details of the police response and security measures.
The home minister ordered authorities to identify the elements involved in the blast and bring them to justice. He also directed police teams to intensify efforts to arrest suspects linked to the incident and keep him informed about the progress of the investigation.
