KP govt to run train in Peshawar Valley with Centre’s help

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to run a train in Peshawar Valley with the cooperation from the federal government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

In this regard, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wrote a letter to Secretary and Chairman Pakistan Railways.

According to text of the letter, it has been agreed to name the proposed train project "Peshawar Valley Railway".

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is working on introducing rail cars, diesel multiple units on railway infrastructure.

Ground work has been started on the pre-feasibility study of the project.

In the first phase, work will be done on the 62-kilometer Peshawar-Nowshera-Jahangira railway section.

In the second phase, work will be done on the 65-kilometer Nowshera-Mardan-Dargai railway section.

Work will be done on the 27-kilometer Mardan-Charsadda section and the 18-kilometer Peshawar-Jamrud section and also on the 60-kilometer Kohat-Jand railway section. 

In a meeting between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Railways, it was discussed to increase cooperation.

Suburban rail services will be implemented in a phased manner under the Railways' Open Access Framework.

Track access charge will be paid by mutual agreement for the use of the existing infrastructure of Pakistan Railways.

Pakistan Railways should nominate a technical team to represent it in the working group.

In this regard, Secretary Transport Department Muhammad Zubair talking to a private news channel said the project will be a game changer, for the first time, the provincial and federal governments will work together.

The rail project will save the provincial government in terms of infrastructure construction. 

The project will increase the business of the railways and also generate revenue.

Millions of passengers, including women and children, will benefit from the Peshawar-Jahangira rail service every day.
