Mujaddid Amjad Sabri, son of the late renowned Pakistani qawwali singer Amjad Sabri, paid a heartfelt tribute to his father on the 10th anniversary of his death, remembering his legacy and enduring influence on Sufi music.
Taking to Instagram, Mujaddid Amjad Sabri shared a nostalgic photograph featuring himself, his siblings and their late father. In an emotional caption, he expressed the family’s love and remembrance.
“It’s been a decade since you left this world, Dad. We believe you’re in a better place now, but your love still lives in every part of us,” he wrote.
Amjad Sabri, one of Pakistan’s most celebrated qawwali singers, was shot dead in Liaquatabad, Karachi, on June 22, 2016, when gunmen opened fire on his car. He was 45 years old at the time of his death.
Sabri belonged to a legendary musical family that produced the iconic Sabri Brothers, one of Pakistan’s most prominent Sufi qawwal groups. The group was founded by his father Haji Ghulam Farid Sabri along with his younger brother Haji Maqbool Ahmed Sabri.
Over the years, Amjad Sabri gained widespread popularity for bringing the traditional qawwali style to a younger audience in Pakistan. His powerful voice and spiritual performances made him a sought-after artist at major events, including the Lux Style Awards and the cultural exchange programme Shaan-e-Pakistan.
At the time of his death, Sabri was also scheduled to appear in Coke Studio Season 9, further highlighting his continued relevance and influence in Pakistan’s music industry.
A decade after his passing, fans, fellow artists, and family members continue to remember Amjad Sabri for his immense contribution to Sufi music and qawwali, ensuring that his legacy lives on.
