Preparations have begun for a key stage in Pakistan’s federal budget process for the next financial year, with a proposal to convene a meeting of the Annual Plan Coordination Committee on 20 May, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the sources, the meeting is expected to prepare recommendations for the federal development budget for the upcoming financial year. It will also propose the annual economic plan, which sets out the government’s broader policy direction.

Sources said the committee will review the current year’s federal development budget and economic plan, while also assessing targets for economic growth in the coming year. The meeting is likely to determine goals for major sectors, including agriculture, industry and services.

In addition, the committee is expected to propose a target for inflation as part of the overall economic framework. Its recommendations will then be presented to the National Economic Council for final approval.

Officials indicated that a meeting of the National Economic Council, chaired by the prime minister, is likely to be held before the Eid holiday to consider the proposals.

Meanwhile, the National Accounts Committee is expected to meet next week to review the approval of the current financial year’s economic targets. It will also examine revised figures for the previous year’s performance.
