The Government of Sindh has approved a Rs515 million fuel subsidy package for fishermen, in a move aimed at providing relief to the fisheries sector and supporting the coastal economy.
The decision was taken following the implementation of a letter submitted by Member of the National Assembly Agha Rafiullah, who had highlighted the challenges faced by fishermen, particularly due to rising fuel prices.
According to Agha Rafiullah, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was briefed on the issues confronting the fishing community during a meeting. He said Bilawal Bhutto issued timely instructions, which led to swift action by the provincial government.
Expressing gratitude, Agha Rafiullah thanked both Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Sindh government for approving what he described as a major relief package for the fisheries sector. He said his efforts to raise the issue of escalating fuel costs had resulted in a practical step benefiting fishermen.
The subsidy package is being seen as a significant measure to support livelihoods in coastal areas and strengthen the fisheries sector, which plays a key role in the province’s economy. Officials described the move as a response to the concerns of the fishing community and a step toward easing their financial burden.
