The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet is scheduled to meet tomorrow (Friday) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to deliberate on a seven-point agenda focusing on critical financial and energy-sector matters.
According to official sources, the meeting will take up a summary from the Power Division aimed at reducing the circular debt in the power sector. The committee is expected to consider the issuance of a government guarantee worth Rs 659.65 billion to facilitate circular debt financing, with an overall financing package estimated at Rs 1,225 billion.
The ECC will also review a summary proposing a reduction in tariffs for nuclear power plants, a move intended to lower generation costs and provide relief to consumers.
Another key agenda item concerns the supply and pricing of gas from the Mari Gas Field to fertiliser plants, a step aimed at ensuring steady fertiliser production ahead of the upcoming cropping season.
Additionally, the committee will examine a proposal for utilising an international bulk terminal to facilitate the export of gold, copper, and other precious minerals, potentially boosting the country’s mineral export capacity.
In a humanitarian measure, the ECC will also discuss a summary regarding a standby arrangement of 3,000 tons of wheat for flood victims, ensuring emergency food supplies in disaster-affected areas.
The outcomes of tomorrow’s meeting are expected to have a significant impact on Pakistan’s energy, export, and food security sectors as the government moves to stabilise the economy.
