Lahore police have arrested 10 students affiliated with the Pashtun Council at Punjab University (PU) after they allegedly attacked campus security guards who attempted to stop an unauthorised music programme, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
According to details, the university administration filed a case against 19 nominated students and an unidentified individual following the incident. Police have begun raids to apprehend the remaining nine accused still at large.
In the First Information Report (FIR) registered in the police station, the PU administration stated that the Pashtun Council tried to organise a music event near the hostel area without prior permission on Sunday.
When security guards stopped non-university individuals accompanying the council members at the hostel gate, the confrontation escalated into violence, leaving one security guard injured.
A university spokesperson confirmed that Pashtun students had previously held cultural and music events with official permission and within university guidelines. However, this particular programme violated standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The spokesperson added that no student organisation is allowed to host events with outsiders or without administrative approval, emphasising that disciplinary action will be taken against those involved in the attack on campus guards.
He also mentioned that many Pashtun students themselves condemned the actions of their council’s office bearers and the unauthorised gathering.
