Director General of Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Irfan Ali Kathia said on Saturday that India has not conveyed any new flood alerts during past 24 hours but the authorities were fully prepared to deal with the flood in the Multan Division, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to media men in Lahore, Kathia said that presently over 300,000 cusecs of water was passing through the Panjnad, while it would reach 650,000 cusecs within the next 24 hours.
Kathia said that water was being drained out from the streets and roads of Gujrat and the situation in the city would become normal in the next 12 to 18 hours.
“We are keeping an eye on the water situation in rivers,” he said, and added that relief and rescue operations were under way in the affected areas.
Responding to a question, Kathia said India has not issued any new alerts regarding floods in any river in the past 24 hours. The water levels can now be expected to recede, he maintained.
Kathia said that “in light of this development, it can be now said with certainty that water on all our rivers will recede.”
He noted that water levels are experiencing a decreasing trend in the Sutlej right now, saying, “There has been a falling trend in the last six hours”.
