Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department projects failed to achieve targets despite spending Rs286 million, reported City42 TV channel on Sunday.
The audit report revealed the performance of livestock and dairy development.
Public Accounts – I sought more clarification from the Livestock Department regarding expenditure and performance of projects.
According to the report, funds allocated for five projects were spent, but desired production and targets could not be achieved.
Despite utilisation of funds in the Rs140 million scheme of the Livestock Department, egg production reported a decline.
According to the audit, Rs140 million was spent on scheme no. 3, but egg production decreased during 2016-22.
A decrease was also reported in FMD vaccine and serum production during 2016-22.
Despite the decrease in FMD vaccine and serum production, 99 percent of project funds were utilised.
The audit report attributed the failure to achieve project targets to weak supervision and administrative shortcomings.
The audit stressed the need for improvement in project monitoring and management.
According to the Livestock Department, the Corona pandemic affected vaccine and serum production.
Audit authorities directed re-verification of records related to use of funds and approval of projects.
