Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced on Monday that the licensing process for SpaceX’s Starlink was set to be completed soon, with plans for the satellite-based internet service to launch in Pakistan by November 2025.
“The licensing process for Starlink will be finalized shortly. Once the license is issued, we will begin the installation of the necessary infrastructure, and Starlink will be operational in Pakistan by November,” Shaza Fatima shared during a briefing to the National Assembly’s standing committee.
In her briefing, the minister also updated the committee on user experiences and progress regarding the internet spectrum.
The session also addressed ongoing legal cases, with the formation of a sub-committee to resolve remaining spectrum-related issues.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure these issues are resolved effectively,” she added.
The minister highlighted recent accomplishments, including the clearance of more than 550 MHz of spectrum through judicial processes in collaboration with the Ministry of Law, achieved within the past year.
A statement from the ministry also noted that MNA Sharmeela Farooqi praised the IT Ministry's efforts, commending the remarkable progress made in a short time.
The briefing provided the committee with an overview of the ministry’s ongoing projects and future plans, reinforcing the government's commitment to improving Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and expanding internet access nationwide.
Last month, the government approved the temporary registration of Starlink, paving the way for the launch of satellite internet services in the country.
Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed this development in a statement on Friday.
She emphasized that this approval aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision to enhance digital infrastructure and broaden internet access across the country.
“Under Prime Minister Shehbaz’s leadership, Pakistan is moving towards digital transformation,” she said, highlighting the introduction of satellite internet as a significant step forward in the country’s technological development.
