Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday said PTI opposed war in the region and wanted Pakistan to play a constructive role, but urged the government to brief parliament and the public on what exactly Islamabad was doing, 24NewsHD TV reported.
Speaking to reporters near Adiala Road in Rawalpindi, Gohar said, "Pakistan’s international standing had improved markedly after 2025, crediting national unity and the military’s role, while demanding that the government come clean on Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts in the region and its reported security arrangement with Saudi Arabia.
He said the way the world viewed Pakistan had changed significantly, adding that the United States' and Europe's approach toward Islamabad had also shifted.
“Pakistan’s status has completely changed,” he said, attributing the shift to the unity of the Pakistani people, their support, and what he called the bravery of the armed forces.
Gohar said that People were being affected by the war in the region and PTI believed there should be no war.
“We want Pakistan to play the best possible role, but the government must tell us what negotiations are under way, what Pakistan’s role is, and at what stage any mediation stands.”
Gohar welcomed what he described as an agreement with Saudi Arabia related to the protection of the Two Holy Mosques, saying the party and PTI founder Imran Khan viewed the development positively.
However, he said the government had yet to explain the nature or scope of the reported Saudi pact.
“We are proud of the agreement with Saudi Arabia and proud of any agreement for the protection of the Haramain,” he said. “But the government has still not told us what this Saudi pact actually is.”
The PTI chief said his party, as a political force, would continue to use every available avenue, including protests, political mobilisation, and legal action, as it presses its demands, particularly for access to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
“We are a political party, and we think politically,” Gohar said. “We will launch a movement, we will protest, and we will also go to the courts.”
He strongly criticized what he called continued restrictions on meetings with the PTI founder, saying family and party leaders had been denied access for months despite repeated court orders and assurances.
“Regrettably, meetings are not taking place,” he said, adding that party meetings with Imran Khan had not been allowed since October, while concerns had deepened further since January.
Gohar thanked the Islamabad High Court chief justice for ordering a meeting on Tuesday, but expressed skepticism over whether the authorities would comply in practice.
“Today, the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court ordered that a meeting be arranged. We will see whether they actually allow it tomorrow or not,” he said.
He argued that legal consultations alone were insufficient and said family members of both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi should also be granted access.
He added that even when Imran Khan’s sisters had reportedly offered not to address the media after a visit, authorities still did not permit the meeting.
He warned that attempts to create distance between Imran Khan and the public had failed and would continue to fail.
