Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Miniter Ishaq Dar has said that US gave a list of fifteen points to make peace deal with Iran that Islamabad handed over to Tehran while Iran gave a list of five points for US, reported 24NewsDH TV Channel.
Addressing Senate session on Tuesday, Ishaq Dar said he was optimistic about peace initiative but yesterday there was a very dangerous development.
Talking about current situation, Dar said at present, Pakistan was playing the role of a mediator therefore he cannot talk in detail on it.
However, Ishaq Dar made it clear that the role of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir was important.
Speaking about further details of peace imitative, foreign ministers said Foreign Office held talks for hours on the night of March 19. “First, there were talks between the twelve countries and then the Group of Four countries.”
Ishaq Dar said Group of Four meeting was scheduled for Istanbul on the 28th. He said with all efforts, the Group of Four meeting was held again in Islamabad. Ishaq Dar said at that time, both sides of the war were ready for talks in Islamabad.
He elaborated that when Israel attacked Iran. In response, Iran attacked the Jubail region of Saudi Arabia. DPM Dar said when Iran was attacked, he was in Medina. Dar said Pakistan was the first Islamic country to condemn the attack on Iran. DPM Dar said he contacted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi shortly after the attack.
Ishaq Dar further told Senate that within three or four hours of the attack on Iran, strikes began on nearby countries.
He said that Pakistan has been making all-out efforts to end the conflict in the region since day one. He added that, as Pakistan has been playing the role of a mediator and facilitator in resolving the conflict, extra care is required in making any move. He, however, said the recent attacks on Iran and Saudi Arabia have further complicated the situation.
Earlier, initiating a debate in the Upper House on the rise in petroleum product prices and the prevailing regional situation, Opposition Leader in the Senate Raja Nasir Abbas commended Pakistan’s strenuous efforts to help end the ongoing conflict in the region.
He said the war in the Middle East has led to a surge in oil prices in Pakistan, as in the rest of the world.
The Opposition Leader called for joint efforts to steer the country out of crises through collective wisdom.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the House that the recent hike in the petroleum prices was a result of an unprecedented increase in the rates of the commodity in the international market. He said the government is providing targeted subsidies to the deserving segments of society to lessen the burden of the price hike.
Maulana Atta Ur Rehman said petroleum prices should be further decreased to provide more relief to the people.
Those, who spoke on the occasion, include Dr Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur, Khalil Tahir, and Noor Ul Haq Qadri.
The House will now meet tomorrow afternoon.
