The Punjab government has decided to run free transport in 17 districts which do not have public transport, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Tuesday.
In the meeting Maryam Nawaz ordered a string of additional steps to provide more relief to the public.
In this regard, free transport pilot approved in Gujranwala, Multan and Sialkot.
A report on the impact of oil prices on transport fares in Punjab was presented in the meeting.
Price control measures in Punjab were also explained in the meeting.
The meeting also reviewed the current prices of 23 food items including onions, tomatoes, potatoes, bananas and pulses in every district including Lahore.
The meeting was briefed that flour price in Punjab is 427 cheaper than Sindh, Rs823 less than KPK and Rs790 less than Balochistan.
Prices of most pulses, fruits and vegetables in Punjab are relatively lower than other provinces. Punjab has ample stocks of pulses and chickpeas.
Chief Minister directed review DC rates of food items and submit a report.
She ordered PERA to regulate LPG rates across the province.
Maryam Nawaz ordered to take steps to prevent hoarding of essential food items.
She appealed not to purchase from sellers of items more expensive than the notified rate.
