Six young men from Mandi Bahauddin district are among 75 feared dead after a migrant boat travelling from Libya to Italy sank near the Italian coast, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
According to details, the vessel, carrying around 105 migrants, capsized in deep waters near Italy, with about 30 survivors reportedly reaching an Italian government shelter camp, while search operations were continuing for 75 missing passengers.
According to families, among the missing are five men from the village of Thatta Kadiwala in Tehsil Phalia and one each from nearby Ranmal Sharif and Pindi Lala.
A survivor from the area, Imran Asghar Ghuman, informed relatives after reaching a shelter camp in Italy, prompting scenes of mourning in the affected villages.
Families of the missing appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to intervene and help trace their loved ones.
The incident is the latest in a string of deadly migrant boat disasters involving Pakistanis attempting to reach Europe via irregular routes through Libya.
