A 10th-grade female student committed suicide by jumping into the Chenab River after scoring low marks on her school examinations in Rangpur (Khushab District) in Noorpur Thal Tehsil, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl, has been identified as Javaria, daughter of Muhammad Arshad, a resident of Rangpur.
According to Rescue 1122, the emergency response began after local authorities found a school bag and a pair of shoes belonging to the missing girl on the banks of the Chenab River near the Kona Primary School in Basti Belkana.
Upon receiving the report, Rescue 1122 dispatched an ambulance from the Rangpur Rescue Station to the scene and immediately notified the police control room.
Rescue teams have launched a comprehensive water search operation using boats. Emergency personnel are currently on-site gathering evidence and interviewing eyewitnesses and family members to piece together the events leading up to the incident.
Officials stated that the search operation is proving difficult due to the challenging river conditions.
The search area spans a section of the Chenab River that is approximately 700 meters wide and 35 to 40 feet deep, with a strong water current flowing at a speed of around 6 kilometers per hour.
The search for the young student remains underway, and police are investigating the matter further.
