Pakistani actress and model Mariam Michael has offered a candid glimpse into the financial realities of Pakistan's entertainment industry, revealing that acting is not as lucrative as many people believe especially for newcomers.
A viral clip from her appearance on the ‘Runway Pakistan’ podcast has been making the rounds online, where Mariam spoke openly about balancing acting and modelling, as well as the challenges actors face during the early stages of their careers.
Sharing her experience, she said:
"There isn't much money in acting at the beginning. Once you're Hania Aamir, then it's a different story."
Mariam went on to explain that although she genuinely enjoys modelling, actors are often expected to focus solely on acting once they enter the television industry.
"It's almost been a year since I entered acting, and I really enjoy modelling. But I feel actors are looked by masses. At the same time, if you're acting and modelling together, it becomes difficult to manage because both the industry and the audience expect you to focus on one thing."
The actress also shed light on the issue of delayed payments in the entertainment industry, saying that despite contractual agreements, actors often have to wait months before receiving their remuneration.
"When you start as an actor, you get a drama and begin working, but your payment usually arrives six to eight months later. The contract may say you'll be paid within a month, but that's rarely how it happens."
