Rescue teams, after hectic efforts of eight hours, finally succeeded in extinguishing the fire that had erupted over a mountain in Takht Bhai in district Mardan, renowned for the Buddhist archaeological sites, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
This is the second time that fire has erupted over the same mountain in the last few days.
As soon as they learnt about the incident, firefighters from Rescue 1122 rushed to the scene to douse the blaze.
However, keeping in view the intensity of the fire, District Emergency Officer Syed Shoaib Mansoor also called in more firefighters who found it difficult to extinguish the flames because of the high altitude.
However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
On the other hand, the locals, while demanding the concerned departments to investigate the incident and identify the reasons that led to a fire in the area so frequently, have expressed the fear that if that is not done, the archaeological sites could be damaged.
