Death anniversary of Junaid Jamshed observed

The ninth death anniversary of renowned religious scholar and Naat Khawan Junaid Jamshed is being observed on Today, December 7.

Born on September 3, 1964, in Karachi, Junaid Jamshed was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan in recognition of his services.

He tragically lost his life on December 7, 2016, in a plane crash near Havelian, along with his wife and 45 other passengers, while returning to Islamabad from Chitral.

Before his transformation into a religious scholar, Junaid Jamshed had a successful career in music.

He graduated in mechanical engineering in 1990 and initially worked with the Pakistan Air Force as a civilian contractor before briefly venturing into aeronautical engineering.

Junaid formed the iconic pop band Vital Signs, serving as its lead vocalist. The band achieved massive popularity during the 1990s with hit songs such as Aitebaar, Goray Rang Ka Zamana, Dil Dil Pakistan, and Sanwali Saloni.

In a global poll of favorite songs, Dil Dil Pakistan was ranked third among the top 10 songs, with votes from 155 countries and territories.

At the peak of a highly successful 15-year music career, Junaid Jamshed left the music industry in 2004 to devote himself to his Islamic faith.

He subsequently became a respected religious scholar and Naat Khawan, leaving a lasting impact on society.
