The United Kingdom has stepped up efforts against illegal migration, deporting 60,000 people since the 2024 elections in a coordinated crackdown with France, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

According to the Home Office, 15,200 individuals were formally removed for overstaying or illegally residing in the UK, a 45 percent increase compared with the previous period.

An additional 43,000 illegal migrants returned home voluntarily after receiving legal orders.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the government remained committed to further increasing deportations, while also pursuing legislation to prevent migrants from using human rights appeals to delay removal.

Despite the crackdown, authorities report that more than 65,000 migrants have entered the UK via sea routes, highlighting ongoing challenges in securing borders and curbing human smuggling networks.

The joint operations with France aim to make entry and residence increasingly difficult for both illegal migrants and human traffickers.
