UN chief slams attack on worshippers in Islamabad

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned in the strongest terms the suicide attack on worshippers gathered at a mosque in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

In a post on social media platform X by UN spokesperson, the secretary-general reiterated that attacks against civilians and places of worship are unacceptable.

Antonio Guterres stressed that those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.

The secretary-general extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a full and speedy recovery to those injured.

He reaffirmed the solidarity of the United Nations with the government and people of Pakistan in their efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has denounced the “terrorist attack” against an Imambargah in Tarlai area of Islamabad during Friday prayers.

“We condemn this terrorist attack and reiterate that all places of worship should be kept safe from such violence,” Spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement on Friday.
