Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took aim at what he called western hypocrisy over comments on Operation Sindoor, India’s military action against Pakistan. He said that in today’s world, countries act only where it benefits them, but still offer “free advice" to others, reported Indian media on Wednesday.

Speaking in Luxembourg about reactions during Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar said Western nations expressed worry about tension, but he questioned their stance. He suggested they look at violence in their own regions and recognise how much concern India has over their actions. He added that often “people say one thing and do another".

Jaishankar emphasised that western countries often pursue their own interests but still offer unsolicited advice to India. He said India must accept this reality and continue to pursue its own policies without being swayed by external commentary.

“Why don’t you look at your own region and ask yourself, what are the levels of violence there, how much risk have been taken, how much worry the rest of us have about what you are doing?" the Indian minister said, slamming the western narratives.

Jaishankar’s remarks come amid the recent US operation in Venezuela under President Donald Trump in which President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured in Caracas and flown out of the country to New York.

Trump has also repeatedly claimed US mediation helped bring about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May 2025 conflict, during which seven Indian warplanes were shot down.
