A high-level delegation of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) on Wednesday visited the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Executive Member Zia Hussain Shah headed the delegation.

Spokesman for the PDMA said that the PDMA Punjab, PNRA, Rescue 1122, and Civil Defence signed three memorandums of understanding (MoU).

The spokesman further said that the purpose of signing these MoU was to ensure that precautionary measures were taken in the event of radiation.

He informed that there was an exchange of views to further strengthen inter-departmental coordination so that it could become more effective.

Speaking on the occasion, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia praised the PNRA’s efforts for radiation safety and security.

He said that the PDMA was always on its toes to deal with any kind of emergency. “The use of radiation in modern times is not only beneficial, but also inevitable,” Kathia said, adding that the capacity of all departments was being enhanced in light of the instructions of Punjab chief minister.

Executive Member PNRA Zia Hussain Shah on the occasion stressed the need for making people aware about the devastating effects of radiation and precautionary measures needed to be taken in that situation.

He assured the PDMA all possible support.

Shah further said that the Authority’s response strategies would be used during emergencies. “The PNRA will also utilize early warning system,” he said, adding that rescue teams would be provided technical support.
