Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Sher Afzal Marwat has questioned recent decisions within the party, particularly the nomination of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition in the national assembly, terming it puzzling for a party of PTI’s size.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Marwat asked how such a major political party could endorse someone outside its ranks for the opposition leadership, questioning whether “even a single decision has been taken correctly.”
Marwat, while underscoring the importance of dialogue, said PTI’s founding chairman had never opposed negotiations, adding that dialogue should not be limited to Imran Khan’s release or prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail alone but should focus on the broader political and governance framework.
Marwat further said national security has never been properly understood, asserting that “the army should be the strength of Pakistan, not Pakistan the strength of the army.”
He also alleged that after the 27th constitutional amendment, the judiciary had lost its independence, questioning who would implement any proposed solutions.
Highlighting his own constituency’s suffering from terrorism, Marwat said it was the state’s responsibility to ensure security.
He admitted internal rigidity within PTI had weakened the party, adding that refusal to engage with other political forces had led to the current impasse.
He asked why PTI could not sit with parties like the ANP, PPP, or figures such as Fawad Chaudhry, warning that continued political isolation would further deepen the crisis.
He referenced Nelson Mandela’s long imprisonment and said dialogue has always produced sustainable outcomes.
