The issue of oath-taking for women on reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly has once again intensified, with opposition parties raising serious constitutional and democratic concerns.
The parties have initiated consultations with legal experts to compel the government to convene a session of the assembly.
According to sources, opposition parties are strongly asserting that the continued delay in oath-taking, despite clear court rulings, is a direct violation of the Constitution and democratic norms.
They maintain that elected members must be sworn in without further delay to uphold the rule of law and the integrity of the parliamentary process.
They warned that if the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly fails to hold a timely session for the oath-taking of women members, the provincial government could face a severe constitutional crisis ahead of the upcoming Senate elections, scheduled for July 21.
The swearing-in of these members is being regarded as essential to ensure the legality of the election process and to avoid complications in vote counts.
The speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is reportedly considering calling a session soon to comply with judicial orders and avert any legal obstacles in the upcoming Senate polls.
The sources said that if the issue remains unresolved, it could undermine the credibility of the Senate elections and further escalate tensions between the opposition and the provincial government.
