In a deeply disturbing event which took place in Karachi’s Ittehad Town, a love marriage turned into a deadly crime, where the girl’s family allegedly opened fire on her husband and his maternal uncle, ultimately killing them both, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
The incident took place near Gulshan Chowk, close to Northern Bypass, and has sparked concern over the societal pressures that continue to hinder personal choice.
Police reports indicate that the girl had been brought to Karachi from Bolan.
Her family, however, which belonged to the Jatoi Tribe, trackled the couple town and eventually initiated a brutal attack in retaliation for the marriage.
The attack was carried out by a total of four armed individuals; two bike riders accompanied by two pillions, who fatally hit both the young man and his uncle.
Another uncle sustained injuries during the assault.
While swiftly responded to the incident, the officers from Manghopir Police Station in Mominabad secured the vicinity and called in forensic experts from the Crime Scene Unit.
The gunmen, meanwhile, believed to have fled with the girl, are still on the run.
Initial police findings confirm the motive behind the attack was the couple's marriage by choice.
Having launched a manhunt for the assailants, the police is now carrying out a full-scale investigation
