The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on Tuesday approved a law allowing members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) and their spouses to receive lifetime official blue passports.
Under the new legislation, eligible MPAs and their spouses will no longer be required to renew their official passports every five years, as the documents will remain valid for life.
Traditionally, blue passports are issued to government officials, members of parliament, ministers, judges and their eligible family members for an initial validity period of five years.
The newly approved law changes this arrangement for members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and their spouses by granting them lifetime blue passports.
The move marks a significant change in the province's policy regarding official travel documents for elected representatives.
