Iranian state-affiliated media on Sunday reported that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had seized a cargo vessel linked to a US company in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, alleging violations of maritime transit regulations.
According to Iran's official news agency, the vessel was intercepted while passing through the waterway and taken into custody for allegedly breaching rules and regulations governing transit through the strait.
The reports said four vessels were attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz under the protection of the US military when Iranian forces intervened.
Iranian authorities claimed one vessel was stopped, while the remaining three turned back.
Iranian media also released footage purportedly showing the seized ship and described it as being affiliated with a US company.
The reported incident comes shortly after Iran announced the implementation of new regulations in the Strait of Hormuz following consultations with Oman, according to Iranian officials.
There was no immediate confirmation from US authorities or independent sources regarding the Iranian claims.
