Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and met with Prince Khalid Bin Salman, the Defence Minister of Kingdom in Riyadh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to an ISPR release issued in Rawalpindi on Saturday, both discussed the gravity of the security situation accruing from Iranian drone and missile attacks on the Kingdom and joint measures needed to halt them within the framework of Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement.
It was emphasised, the ISPR statement said, that unprovoked aggression undermines efforts for regional security and stability and foreclose options for peaceful settlement of disputes.
Both sides expressed hope and desire that brotherly country Iran would manifest prudence and sagacity to avoid any miscalculation and strengthen the hands of friendly countries seeking peaceful settlement of the crisis.
According to Saudi Gazette and Al Jazeera, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met in Riyadh with Pakistan’s Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss recent Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and ways to address the escalating situation.
During the meeting in Riyadh, the two sides reviewed the Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia within the framework of the joint strategic defence agreement between the two countries. They discussed efforts to halt such actions which do not serve the security and stability of the region.
Both sides expressed hope that Iran would exercise wisdom and reason and avoid miscalculations that could further escalate tensions.
The meeting was attended by Fayyadh Al-Ruwaili,Saudi Chief of the General Staff, and Hisham bin Saif, adviser to the defence minister for intelligence affairs.
Saudi Arabia intercepts 16 drones, cruise missile
Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed 16 drones targeting the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter, the Defence Ministry said in a series of statements on Saturday.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Maj-Gen Turki Al-Maliki said four drones were intercepted and destroyed in the Empty Quarter while heading toward Shaybah field.
In a separate statement, he said six more drones were intercepted and destroyed in another attempted attack on the field.
He later announced the interception and destruction of another four drones heading toward Shaybah, followed by two additional drones also bound for the field.
Al-Maliki also said Saudi air defences intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base.
In a separate incident, he said one drone was intercepted and destroyed east of Riyadh.
Earlier on Friday, Saudi air defences intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile east of Al-Kharj governorate.
