Commenting on the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision to allow Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif to go abroad for medical treatment, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry said on Friday that allowing a person, who was ‘involved’ in laundering billions of rupees, to go abroad was a joke with the law, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a series of tweets, he said even a panchayat did not pronounce the verdict in such a haste as the LHC has done in this case. “The court’s sanctioning of his flight abroad will be very unfortunate,” he said, and added, “Earlier the same person had acted as a guarantor in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s case. But the question is what has become of that guarantee? Has Nawaz returned home?”

The information minister further said the government would utilize all legal options against the LHC verdict. “Prime Minister Imran Khan, on several occasions, has already pointed out flaws in our legal system. But sadly the opposition is not ready to cooperate with the government in order to remove these flaws. And the reason for that is that opposition parties’ own vested interests were linked to the status quo,” he regretted.
