Over 100 flights have been delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Friday morning due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, reported Indian media.
The Delhi airport authority has confirmed the delay, advising passengers to keep tracking the status of their flights.
According to an official statement from the airport authority, “Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. Their team is actively working with all stakeholders, including DIAL to resolve it at the earliest."
The advisory further urged passengers to stay updated on their flight status: “Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused."
Authorities have confirmed that technical teams are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
SpiceJet also informed passengers that ongoing ATC congestion at Delhi Airport may affect departures, arrivals, and connecting flights. The airline advised travellers to regularly check the status of their flights through its official portal.
Air India also issued an update on the same in an official statement on X.
“A technical issue with the ATC system in Delhi is impacting flight operations across all airlines, leading to delays and longer wait times at the airport and onboard aircraft. We regret the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption, which is beyond our control, and appreciate your patience," it said.
Our cabin crew and on-ground staff at the airport are extending immediate assistance to reduce passenger inconvenience," the airlines added, also advising travellers to track flight status on its official website.
Several travellers also took to social media to express the frustration. An X user under the name Ishita wrote,"@airindia @DelhiAirport it is a nightmare to be sitting in an aircraft for 2 hours due to massive signal failure. 90 flights are queued up and there is no clarity when we will take off. There could be failures but why can’t you inform passengers before boarding."
Air India also replied to her post adding, "Dear Ma’am, we understand your dissatisfaction. Kindly share your flight details with us via DM so that we can look into this further."
Another social media user said, "All airlines flight departures from Delhi Airport are delayed and waiting for ATC clearance. We are sitting in the plane for more than an hour. Is there any serious issue?"
A third netizen wrote, “Very disappointed with @IndiGo6E — 5066 flight scheduled at 6:10 AM, boarded long ago but still not taken off. Pilot just said another 1 hr delay (till 9 AM)! My connecting flight is at 10:30. What’s happening? #IndiGo #FlightDelay."
