The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl group (JUI-F) has expressed concern over the escalating war of words between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), calling the situation politically damaging.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, speaking to reporters on Tuesday, JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza said it was too early to issue a definitive opinion on the dispute but warned that “the direction this matter is taking serves no one’s interest.”
Senator Murtaza questioned the motives behind the ongoing tensions, saying, “Let’s wait and see what illusion the public is made to chase next. Whatever this leads to, it seems designed for someone’s benefit.”
He further remarked that if a genuine conflict had indeed arisen between the two ruling coalition partners, it meant that “the force that once united them has deliberately loosened its grip.”
According to him, the apparent rift could also be a tactical move to divert public attention from real national issues or secure dominance over the opposition’s political space.
He added that political actors in Punjab were “not innocent enough to act against their own interests”, suggesting that either one or both parties were pursuing calculated self-interest.
“The fact is, there’s always a beneficiary in such confrontations, and nothing here happens without reason,” the senator stated, adding that decisions in Pakistan have rarely served the public interest.
He lamented that Parliament’s role has become extremely weak, saying that if it had been serious about people’s issues, “the country would not be in this condition, nor would it have been divided in the past.”
Senator Kamran Murtaza is a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and a sitting Senator from Balochistan (2021–2027). He previously served as a senator from 2003 to 2009 and is affiliated with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl Group).
