Pakistan Railways is considering a new shuttle train service connecting Lahore, Kasur, and Pakpattan as part of its efforts to expand regional connectivity and improve passenger transport facilities, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
The proposal, once approved, will pave the way for the launch of a short-distance train service designed to facilitate daily commuters and promote local trade between the three districts.
According to official sources, the feasibility report for the Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle train project has been completed and formally submitted to the railway administration for review.
They said that the report assessed the route’s technical, financial, and operational aspects, including track conditions, potential passenger volume, and estimated operational and maintenance costs.
Once the project receives official approval, the shuttle train will operate between Lahore and Pakpattan via Kasur, providing a cost-effective transportation for thousands of passengers traveling daily for work, education, and business purposes.
The initiative is expected to reduce road congestion and fuel consumption while revitalizing smaller railway stations along the route.
Railway officials have expressed optimism that the project will strengthen intercity connectivity in Punjab’s central and southern parts of the Lahore division.
