Another five terrorists belonging to outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed in an operation carried out by law-enforcement agencies in Quetta suburbs, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The latest action came a day after a major clash between Army soldiers and scores of TTP terrorists in Chitral in which 122 attackers were killed while four troops were also martyred.
Counter Terrorism Department Balochistan personnel carried out the raid in Quetta’s suburban area of Aghburg.
A CTD Balochistan spokesman said the slain terrorists were belonged to the banned TTP and were responsible for target-killing of personnel of Eagle Squad police and other law-enforcement agencies.
The CTD spokesman said weapons, ammunition, explosives, suicide vests, rifles, five hand grenades and other prohibited items were also seized from the hideouts of the terrorists.
On Wednesday, Army soldiers had repelled a cross-border raid from Afghanistan by "hundreds" of Taliban militants. "They were in hundreds and were armed with light and heavy weapons. We were ready to face the attack and exchange of fire continued for some four hours," Chitral Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ali told AFP.
In a statement, the Pakistan military's public relations wing, ISPR, said "a large group of terrorists equipped with latest weapons" attacked two outposts in the area. Four Pakistan troops were martyred, while "12 terrorists were sent to hell", the ISPR added.
"We were monitoring their movements in areas close to the border for two or three days," deputy commissioner Ali said. "Informers have also sent us information about the militant group movement."
Police official Karim Khan told AFP that security forces had sealed entry to Chitral, a rugged area of steep hills and valleys popular with domestic tourists.
Another official said troops and paramilitary forces had been rushed in to reinforce the district.
"Sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate any other terrorists," ISPR said.
Over the first 12 months of Taliban rule in Afghanistan, Pakistan witnessed a 50 percent surge in militant attacks, focussed in the western border provinces according to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS).
