An eight-month-old child drowned after his 22-year-old mother allegedly jumped into the QB Link Canal with him following a domestic dispute in Farooqabad, officials said.
Rescue 1122 teams managed to save the woman, identified as Laiba, but her son, Arman Hamza, drowned. A search operation was underway to recover the child's body.
According to initial information, Laiba, a resident of Jahangirabad Mohalla in Farooqabad, had been staying at her parents' home following a dispute with her husband.
She later left her parents' house in a rickshaw, reportedly saying that she was going to her in-laws in Mianwali Dogra. She stopped in Farooqabad during the journey and allegedly jumped into the QB Link Canal with her eight-month-old son.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched an operation, successfully pulling the woman from the canal. However, they were unable to save the child.
SHO Rana Rizwan Elahi took the woman into custody, while police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
