Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in a meeting with Asian Development Bank Vice-President (South, Central and Eastern Asia) Yingmang Yang sought ADB’s support for a string of development projects in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the meeting in Lahore on Monday, the ADB VP thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the warm hospitality while appreciating the CM’s vision and speed of public service.
It was agreed during the meeting that both sides will work together in important sectors such as provision of clean drinking water, agriculture, technical skills, health and education.
The chief minister emphasized the need for Asian Development Bank support for Cardiac Hospital, Children’s Hospital and Cancer Hospital.
Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude to the ADB officials for organizing the “Punjab Agri-Food Investment Forum”.
Discussions were also held on three concessional loan agreements for nursing education, establishment of STEAM labs in schools and agricultural machinery to farmers.
All projects in Punjab are on the way to rapid completion, the CM declared, adding by next year, 2,000 more electric buses will be seen running on the roads with the support of ADB.
“Health projects are among our priorities, we will complete them soon for the convenience of the people,” the CM stressed.
Maryam Nawaz called the Punjab Economic Transformation Plan a game-changer for the improvement of agriculture and economic development. “The government is focusing on increasing the cultivation of oilseeds, pulses and fruits, improving agricultural finance and cold chains,” she added.
Maryam Nawaz maintained that her government wanted to further strengthen Pakistan’s strong and long-term partnership with ADB. “Punjab is Pakistan’s food basket, a hub of industrial development with a growing workforce,” she maintained.
The Punjab government is focused on a broad reform agenda, strong governance, better service delivery, economic revival and development, she said and added under PIVOT, the province is increasing value addition, exports, skill development and private sector investment.
