A potential disaster was narrowly avoided when the Shalimar Express, travelling from Karachi to Lahore, met with an accident near Nawabshah, where three of its coaches derailed, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to railway officials, the affected bogies included a VIP kitchen lounge, an AC business class coach, and an AC standard coach. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Railway authorities said emergency teams were dispatched to the site immediately, and efforts were underway to restore the derailed coaches and resume normal train operations.
Initial assessments suggest that technical issues or track conditions may have contributed to the derailment, though a formal investigation is expected to determine the exact cause.
The incident comes just days after another derailment involving the Green Line train near Wazirabad Railway Junction on March 27. In that case, two bogies went off the track near Nala Palkhu shortly after departure due to a reported track fault. Once again, no loss of life was reported, with officials attributing the safe outcome to controlled speed and timely response.
Following the earlier incident, train operations on the Lahore–Rawalpindi section were temporarily suspended, causing disruptions to rail traffic. Repair work was carried out on the damaged track, and services were later restored after safety clearance.
