Authorities in Bannu District have imposed an indefinite curfew, sealing all entry and exit routes in the Hovid area and its adjoining localities on Friday morning as a major anti-terrorists operation was under way.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, a massive search and strike operation is underway in Hovid, Bannu district, following confirmed reports of presence of terrorists in the area.
According to police, the joint operation involves the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), local police, and security forces, with heavy contingents deployed across the area.
Residents have been instructed to remain indoors after 5 am until further notice as forces comb the locality for suspected militants.
Officials warned that terrorists might attempt to use civilians as human shields, urging the public to avoid close contact with any suspicious individuals.
In the event of militants seeking refuge in homes or other locations, residents have been advised to move immediately to a secure place.
Police have further cautioned that anyone found providing shelter, assistance, or any form of cooperation to terrorists will face severe legal consequences.
Buildings from which gunfire is directed at security forces will be demolished on the spot, and those responsible will be strictly punished.
This heightened security operation comes just five days after a deadly assault on the Fathakhel police post in Bannu on August 3.
In that attack, heavily armed militants attempted to storm the post using advanced weaponry. A fierce gun battle ensued, during which Constable Niaz embraced martyrdom while three other officers sustained injuries.
Security forces swiftly retaliated, killing two attackers instantly and a third during a pursuit.
An extensive search in surrounding areas continues as forces hunt for any remaining militants or their facilitators.
