Rawalpindi police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting and physically abusing a Thai woman who allegedly came to Pakistan from Bangkok after being promised marriage, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Rawat Police Station.
Police arrested the suspect, identified as Aamir Sohail, and registered a case on the woman’s complaint.
Further investigation is underway.
According to the FIR, the woman said she met Aamir Sohail in Bangkok about two years ago, and the two later became friends.
She alleged that he promised to marry her and persuaded her to come to Pakistan.
She arrived in the country around four months ago, after which the suspect rented an apartment for them in Bahria Town.
The woman alleged that during her stay, the suspect repeatedly sexually assaulted her and kept delaying marriage whenever she demanded that he fulfil his promise.
She further alleged that he restricted her movement and did not allow her to leave the apartment.
According to the complaint, the suspect allegedly assaulted her again, prompting her to escape with difficulty and seek medical assistance.
She also alleged that the suspect took her money when he left.
Police said that after registration of the case, the investigation was handed over to the SSIU unit.
The arrested suspect is being interrogated as the investigation continues.
