Upper and western parts of the country are in the grip of extreme cold these days as night temperatures are below zero in most of these areas, while, on the other hand, the Met Office predicted rain for most of the areas in the upper parts of the country, including Lahore, which is likely to end smog in the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Not only have night temperatures plummeted but temperatures during the day are also below average not only in the mountainous areas but also in the plains.
Severe cold has resulted in the freezing of water on roads, making them slippery.
A truck and a vehicle fell into a ravine in Upper Dir.
The weather department said there were 50 per cent to 70 per cent chances of rain in Lahore during the next 24 hours.
The maximum temperature in the Punjab capital was expected to go up to 17 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, while the minimum temperature was expected to reach 10 degrees Celsius.
Bitterly cold weather in most parts of Balochistan has led to unannounced gas loadshedding, creating great inconvenience for the people.
The minimum temperature in the provincial capital Quetta on Saturday morning was recorded at -2 degrees Celsius.
People have demanded the concerned department to take notice of the situation and put an end to their ordeal.
Rain predicted for upper parts of country
On the other hand, the Met Office forecast rain with snow over the hills in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai and Kurram in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Similarly, it said there were chances of thundershowers, accompanied by strong winds, in Islamabad and its suburbs.
In Punjab, the Office forecast rain, accompanied by strong winds, in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad and Jhang.
Rain and snowfall were also predicted for Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Met Office said that the weather in Balochistan would remain cold while extremely cold in the upper parts of the province.
Likewise, it forecast cold and dry weather for Sindh.
