The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board met in Washington on Monday and approved a $1.3 billion tranche for Pakistan.
The approval signals renewed confidence from the IMF in Pakistan’s economic direction and reform agenda. Officials said the tranche will help strengthen foreign exchange reserves, stabilize financial markets, and reinforce fiscal consolidation efforts.
In response to the approval, the government reiterated its commitment to continued implementation of economic reforms, focusing on fiscal discipline, improved revenue collection, governance transparency, and energy sector restructuring.
Sources within the finance ministry emphasized that Pakistan is committed to meeting IMF benchmarks and pursuing long-term structural reforms to ensure economic resilience.
The IMF decision is expected to enhance investor confidence, support the national currency, and create space for sustainable growth measures. Economists say the tranche will provide breathing room as Pakistan works to expand its tax base, streamline expenditures, and encourage investment.
With the new disbursement approved, Pakistan’s engagement with the IMF program enters a strengthened phase—one marked by renewed trust and a shared vision for economic stability and recovery.
